Working in the Tea Room at Ribble Steam Railway is a warm, friendly, and vital part of the visitor experience. It’s ideal for sociable volunteers who enjoy working in a café-style setting and being part of a close-knit, supportive team.
Customer Service
Greet customers with a smile
Take orders and serve food and drinks
Handle queries and recommend items
Cash Handling
Use the till (training provided)
Take payments by cash or card
Keep track of basic stock and change
Food Preparation (Basic)
Make sandwiches, toasties, soups, hot drinks
Serve cakes, scones, and snacks
Follow hygiene and food safety guidelines
Cleaning & Resetting
Wipe tables and trays
Wash up crockery and utensils
Keep surfaces tidy and bins emptied
Being Able to do food and hygiene level 2 is a must.
Friendly & welcoming | You’ll meet families, tourists, and regulars
Good communicator | Helps when taking orders and answering questions
Basic food hygiene awareness | Training provided, but cleanliness matters
Confidence handling money | You’ll use the till (don’t worry—support is provided)
Reliability | Shifts are short and flexible, but teamwork depends on consistency
Physically active | You’ll be on your feet and carrying light trays and dishes
