Local group volunteer

TWAM ( tools with a mission)

A Local Group is a team of people who share our passion for livelihood, creating tools and who get together to collect tools from their area. Many also offer talks to local community groups and speak on local radio. Some groups sort the tools before arranging collection, and some even do some refurbishment, such as grinding off the rust and fixing loose handles. You will need somewhere to store tools, such as a vacant garage or big shed. Our local groups have a great community spirit and greatly support TWAM.

What you will be doing

  • Collecting tools from members of the general public (either as a drop-off point or collecting from the donors)
  • Promoting TWAM locally to generate your own tool donation requests
  • Sorting the tools so that all broken and unusable tools are removed
  • Doing basic tools refurbishment as facilities and skills allow
  • Optionally speaking to local groups about TWAM or arranging events to fundraise for TWAM.

What skills do I need?

  • Enthusiasm for TWAM and the transforming power of tools
  • Ability to carry our basic refurbishment if you intend your group to do this
  • Creative and an ideas person if you plan to organise events
  • Able to comply with TWAM policies if driving for Local Group activities
