In-Home Support Volunteer

Home Start Central Lancashire

Home-Start In-home volunteers come from all walks of life and experiences. All that’s asked of that they have a caring and non-judgemental attitude and can commit to visiting a family in their home for two-three hours per week.

Volunteers offer emotional & practical support to parents as well as friendship & build a trusting relationship with their family. Support is done in a non judgemental manner as part of Home-Start’s ethos, which is crucial for parents reaching out for help.

Home-Start Central Lancashire aims to offer support, guidance, and practical help to families in the local area who are under stress in their own homes, to help to prevent family crisis and breakdowns. Our family support  helps to increase confidence, resilience, and independence to enable families to achieve their goals and aims.

What skills do I need?

You need to be over 18 years of age to volunteer at Home-start Central Lancashire.

Be someone who enjoys quality conversations, has a positive attitude, a good sense of humour and a caring nature.

Have good communication and interpersonal skills, especially the ability to listen.

Be passionate about supporting, enabling and empowering people who are vulnerable, isolated or in need of support.

Be non-judgemental when supporting people of any gender, family status, sexual identity, ethnic origin, culture, religion or disability.

Understand that some of our families are vulnerable, and it would be an advantage if you had an awareness of key issues such as alcohol, drug abuse and mental health; however, this is not a compulsory requirement as training is provided.

Have an understanding of confidentiality

We ask that you are able to commit to regular contact with the family you support.

You need to be able to provide a clear DBS, if you do not have a current certificate this can be applied for.
