Ribble Steam Railway & Museum

Visitor-facing roles: Greeting guests, ticketing, retail in the museum shop, assisting in the café, and delivering a friendly, informative experience. Full training included. 

What skills do I need?

 1. Friendly, Welcoming Attitude

Confident greeting visitors

Warm, approachable, and enthusiastic

Comfortable chatting with strangers


2. Good Communication Skills

Clear speaking and good listening

Able to explain directions, answer questions

Comfortable with diverse age groups and needs


 3. Basic Customer Service / Retail Skills

Using a till or cash register (training provided)

Handling money, card payments

Keeping displays tidy or assisting in the café/shop


 4. Reliability & Punctuality

Turning up when you say you will

Sticking to shift times, being dependable

Helping cover busy periods or special events


 5. Interest in Railways or Local History (Optional but Ideal)

Able to share stories about the engines, dock history, or museum pieces

Eager to learn and pass that on to guests


6. Teamwork & Flexibility

Willing to pitch in where needed

Works well with a mix of other volunteers (young, retired, new people)

Helps with setting up for events or guiding groups
