Schoolreaders
Do you have an hour or two to spare each week? Could you support local children with their developing their reading skills?
Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a local primary school where they visit weekly and listen to children read individually to help improve their reading and comprehension skills and also foster a love of reading. Reading for pleasure at a young age has a significant impact in how children are able to access their secondary education and also on their future life chances.
Volunteers need to be able to commit to weekly visits to their school, on a day and time that suits them within the school day, for at least a year (holidays and appointments can be taken during this time).
Our volunteers say the benefits of volunteering with Schoolreaders are feeling that they are making a difference in their community and helping local children to read more fluently and confidently.
Our volunteers do not need any prior experience or specific skills but they must be over 18 and have good written and spoken English. They will also need to have a DBS check carried out, but this is at no cost to the volunteer.
Volunteers will need to complete an online application form but a paper copy can be requested by emailing Michelle - m.bailey@schoolreaders.org

Volunteers can state when they are available during the school week. Volunteering is term time only and we ask that all volunteers commit to volunteering for at least a year from the date they start.
