Befriender

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen

There are 3 potential volunteer roles within the befriending scheme which supports older people who are isolated and often housebound in Blackburn with Darwen

Telephone befriending - telephone 2-3 older people per week from home usually at the same time each week

Visiting - be matched with and visit an older person in their own home once a week

Stepping Out - provide support and encouragement to an older person on a short term basis (up to 6 weeks) accompanying them to groups, activities or on walks to help them regain confidence and independence following a significant life event such as illness or bereavement.


What skills do I need?

Good listener, good communicator, empathetic, reliable.
